Why pay a fee for identification when online apps and groups out there will do it for free? In two words… ACCURACY and EXPERIENCE. Many of those free sites and online groups are plagued by misidentifications and inexperienced people with very strong, and unfortunately, frequently incorrect opinions. I’m a geologist and paleontologist with 40 years of collecting experience in sites all over the globe and I ran the specimen identification service at a major university museum for a decade.
